Competition: I played in a golf tournament last weekend. It was awesome. I’ve been working at my golf game more lately, so yes, I wanted to play well and maybe even win. But, what stood out most was how fun it was to compete in something that, in the big picture, didn’t really matter.
No stakes. No pressure. No business outcomes riding on my swing.
It gave me a contrast to the other kind of competition we live in every day. Competition in the business world is different - people's livelihood and future is on the line. The right decisions matter a lot. That kind of competition can be meaningful, but it also comes with a weight you sometimes don’t notice until you step away from it.
This weekend reminded me that not all competition needs to be serious to be fulfilling. Sometimes, meaningless competition gives us just enough distance to remember why we like pushing ourselves in the first place.
There's a great quote that I've added to my quote rolodex that fits this example well.
"Play the game for the game's sake"
I love business. I love creating things. I am lucky to play that game on a daily basis. Reminder to myself: Just play the game and the outcomes will come. You'll have more fun along the way.
Planning for Parenthood: I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can add more value to people’s financial lives. Regardless if they're clients, followers, or just people that need help. With that in mind, I’m starting to create free resources to help people navigate key financial moments in life. Huge thanks to Trey for sparking this idea.
The first resource I’ve launched is a checklist for people who are expecting a child. It’s designed to make sure you’re covering the most important financial steps as you prepare for this major life change. You can check it out here: Expecting Parent Financial Checklist
I hope this proves helpful. If you have feedback or ideas for future resources, I’d love to hear them. A few on my radar:
The goal is to offer practical tools while also giving a glimpse into the kind of support I offer as a holistic wealth manager.
Win the Morning: Loyal readers know I'm into waking up early these days. My business partner, Ben, calls it the 5am club. I'm a big fan of Kevin Dahlstrom and he recently posted this great tweet.
